Click here for CarQuest ProTruck #2 2002 Season Schedule
Thursday Greg Williams of G. W. Roofing returned behind the wheel the CARQUEST #2 Main Street Racing ProTruck. Greg was impressive in his final 2002 ProTruck Season Ottodrome race. He started the first heat from the eighth place position and easily stayed with the more experienced field. The second Heat race saw Greg starting from the third place position. Greg raced very well and held his position for most of the race while several trucks tried to get by. In the Feature race Greg started from the eleventh spot. He gained a number of positions throughout the 30 lap race as he turned lap times competitive to the leaders. Between cautions and tight 'end of season' racing competition, Greg capably went on to finish tenth. Good Racing Greg! Greg continues to gain valuable racing experience. Looking forward to watching him in the 2003 ProTruck Series. Thursday night was also the Ottodrome International Speedway Inaugural Mechanics Race. Main Street Racing's and CARQUEST's Parts Professional, Leo Constantino tried his hand at racing behind the wheel of the #2 CARQUEST ProTruck. Leo looked good in his rookie race appearance. There were a few bumps and grinds but Leo managed to avoid them all and brought the Pro Truck #2 across the finish line. Ken and the Main Street Racing Crew raced in Quebec City last Saturday in the RIOPELLE RACING #92 CARQUEST/PRAXAIR CASCAR. They took a 24-hour round trip to Autodrome St. Croix, outside of Quebec City, for the 200-lap ADL Race. A field of 27 CASCARs made it to start the endurance race. Ken started from the 22nd position after working on adapting the car setup properly for the 5/8 mile banked oval track. Ken drove well gaining several positions in the first few laps and held them despite a less than desirable "push" in the suspension. That required a lot of steering work on Ken's part. A quick pit stop on lap 42 for fuel and an adjustment to fix the suspension cost a few positions. One lap after the pit stop and Ken had returned to race speed, there was a three-car accident in turn one. Ken had nowhere to go but into one of the spun cars. The accident damage ended their racing for the day; a body hanger punctured the radiator. Nice to see sponsors Barry Horricks & Bernadette Buiting make the 4-hour drive to watch Ken in action and see how the CASCAR handled on the very, very fast track. Special Thanks to Main Street Crew Leo, Greg & Chris for making the trip and assisting the Riopelle Racing Crew of Mark, Grant, Booker, Brett & Dave with the #92 CASCAR. Despite a disappointing finish, a great time was had by all at this beautiful track located right on the St. Lawrence Seaway across the river from Quebec City. Fans can sit on the Hill overlooking the Track and the St Lawrence. Main Street Racing is looking forward to next year at the Quebec City track. To the Mini Stocks! And Another Points Lead change between "Dentman" Dave Watchorn and Martin Walter. Martin took a slim single point lead driving very determined and finishing second in the first heat and the winning both the second heat and the feature. "Dentman" Dave was working hard last night trying to hold off Martin. Dave drove well finishing second in the second heat and earning a fourth in the Feature. The season long battle for the North Gower Mini-Stock Championship rages on, with loads of fun and good sportsmanship behavior - Great racing fun. In the ProStock Class, Earl Wylie looked good after making some substantial suspension adjustments and finishing fourth in the feature race last night. Excellent racing from everybody.
Ken Baird returned behind the wheel of the #2 Carquest ProTruck on Fan Appreciation Night. Ken started his first heat from the third place position, second on the inside row. During the first lap the race leader made a critical mistake; Ken was able to capitalize on the error by executing a difficult double pass and taking the lead. The #2 CARQUEST Pro-Truck looked untouchable as Ken had opened up a half lap lead by the sixth lap. A late caution brought the field back together. On the restart Ken quickly pulled away and earned the Heat race victory leading all ten laps. The second Heat race saw Ken starting from the tenth place position at the back of the pack. Ken looked strong right from the green flag. With some skillful driving he was able to pass half of the field to earn a fifth place finish gaining more positions than any other truck. In the Feature race Ken started from the third place position again. After a small collision on the starting lap, Ken moved quickly and precisely to take over the lead by turn four of the first lap. Alone out in front, Ken drove hard and opened another half lap lead in the #2 CARQUEST ProTruck. A caution on the twelfth lap doubled up the field, Ken was again able to take the lead on the restart and open up a ten-length lead by lap twenty. After leading all Thirty laps, Ken earned a well-deserved victory in the Feature race on Fan Appreciation Night at Ottodrome International Speedway. Congratulations to the MTM Racing #46 ProTruck of Matt Moffitt, earning a second place finish after a spectacular crash in the second heat race nearly cut his evening short. Ken was also active last Saturday in the #2 CARQUEST ProTruck taking a trip to Autodrome St.Eustache for a 150-lap Old Milwaukee Shootout Race. The Team had the truck set up better than ever for the nearly flat oval course. Ken was able to gain a few positions in the first fifty laps after qualifying tenth. In the second fifty-lap set, unfortunately Ken tagged the wall and cut down the right front tire. While changing the right front tire the St. Eustache officials insisted that the body damaged suffered during the incident had to be repaired before Ken could return to the race. In the time it took to make the necessary repairs the race had restarted and the #2 ProTruck had missed five laps. With the five-lap deficit, Ken continued to drive well and came away with an eighteenth place finish in the field of twenty-two. Much appreciation to Carmen Griffith of Steve Yendall Racing and Greg Lamb, Sara & Troy for their assistance as extra pit crew when Leo was unable to make the trip down. The Dynamic Duo, "Dentman" Dave Watchorn and Martin Walter, still remain neck and neck in the 2002 Mini-Stock points race. "Dentman" Dave has been working hard these last few nights to chip away at Martin's points lead. Some exceptional driving has paid off as Dave now holds a eleven point lead going into the final few nights of the season. Dave drove very well winning the second heat and earning third in the Feature. Martin also had a good start to the night, winning the first heat race. Unfortunately, in the Feature while dramatically cutting his way through the field he tagged the wall going three wide though turn two. After some minor repairs expect Martin to return next week and continue the season long battle for the North Gower Mini-Stock bragging rights. In the ProStock Class, Earl Wylie put on an exciting performance narrowly avoiding the wall in the first heat and finishing fifth in the feature race last night. Excellent racing all round.
Experienced racer, Steve Morris of Kart Depot, finally gets to race the #2 CARQUEST Pro-Truck after technical difficulties cut short his inaugural race last Wednesday. Steve turned some very competitive lap times as he made his Ottodrome debut last night, staying tight to the highly competitive field of racers. Steve started his first heat race from the sixth position, although he was unable to gain a position in the race, he was all over the car in front of him for all ten laps as he developed a feel for the ProTruck. In the feature race Steve started from the 12th position and stayed with this experienced field for the entire race. As Steve gained more and more experience he was quickly gaining spots, by the 24th lap he was up three positions, some excellent accident avoidance saw him gain a few more when the penalized trucks were sent to the back of the field and were unable to pass Steve in the #2 Carquest ProTruck. Look for Steve Morris to return behind the wheel in two weeks time for another spin in the #2 CARQUEST ProTruck, he can also be found at many local Kart Races representing his Kart Depot. Ken Baird was active last night doing double duty as Crew Chief for the #2 CARQUEST ProTruck as well driving the RIOPELLE RACING #92 CARQUEST/PRAXAIR CASCAR in the second CASCAR invitational race at Ottodrome this season. The field of eight cars put on quite a competitive race for the crowd. Ken's first time driving this CASCAR saw him start from the eighth position in the heat race and gain two spots in the quick ten-lap race. Ken looked excellent learning how to handle the car that he had just completed at four o'clock that afternoon. After several minor adjustments in the pits between the races, Ken started the Feature Race in fifth position, third on the inside row. The CARQUEST/PRAXAIR #92 looked great as Ken was able to gain a few positions in the first three laps, the CASCAR had lots of power around the track, however it still required some steering and suspension adjustments as it was hard to handle. Ken cautiously piloted the CASCAR to a fifth place finish in what turned out to be a very exciting invitational race. Congratulations to fellow North Gower racer, Lyle Perkins, as he drove an excellent race to take his second victory in as many Ottodrome races this season. Special thanks to Brian Harrison of the #9 Perkins/Harrison CASCAR team for volunteering to haul the #92 CARQUEST/PRAXAIR CASCAR to the track. Ken was also active last Saturday in the #2 CARQUEST ProTruck taking a trip to Autodrome St.Eustach for a 100-lap race sponsored by Cummings Trucks. Ken put the truck through its paces as he charged his way through this extremely experienced field moving him from eleventh up to seventh place. Fortunately Ken gained another spot when a truck ahead of him was disqualified for technical reasons after the race. Much appreciation to Carmen Griffith of Steve Yendall Racing and Greg Lamb for substituting as pit crew when Neither Chris, Greg (Williams) nor Leo could make the trip down for various reasons. Looks like the tandem that never fails to impress, "Dentman" Dave Watchorn and Martin Walter, will remain neck and neck in the points race, with the Championship likely coming down to the final night of the season. Martin drove extremely well to win the first heat race and finish second in the feature. The "Dentman" had another outstanding night finishing first in the second heat race and earning a third place finish in the feature race. Look for non-stop action as the North Gower bragging rights this year are coming down to the wire. In the ProStock Class, Earl Wylie built on his excellent performance last week by finishing a strong third place in both the first heat and the feature race last night. Excellent racing all round.
Ottodrome International Speedway - August 15th, 2002
Greg Williams of G. W. Roofing returns to Race the CARQUEST #2 ProTruck Rookie Driver Greg Williams of G. W. Roofing returns undeterred after a phenomenal crash on July 17th to continue his rookie season in the #2 Carquest Pro-truck. Greg drew the pole position in the second heat race, beside fellow North Gower native Steve Yendall in the #1. The experienced veteran got the jump on Greg on the outside and led the race from start to finish. Greg competed well with this experienced field for the length of the race finishing sixth overall and turning some incredibly competitive lap times as he gains more and more race experience behind the wheel. The Feature race saw Greg starting in the 12th position. Greg was very impressive as he challenged the #25 Pro-Truck driven by Tim Dorning, turning lap times comparable to the race leader. Greg finished the race in the 11th position looking very strong behind the wheel as week by week he improves dramatically. Congratulations to Steve Benoit in the #99 Pro-Truck earning another Feature win this season with Steve Yendall in the #1 on his back bumper coming across the finish line; A good clean race with no cautions for the entire 30 laps. Look forward to seeing Greg back behind the wheel of the #2 Carquest Pro-Truck in 2 weeks time at Ottodrome International Speedway. Ken will be racing this Saturday at St Eustache in the Old Milwaukee 100 Lap Shootout. "Dentman" Dave Watchorn and Martin Walter put on a superb show in the Mini-Stock races again last night. There is now a mere five points separating them for the Point Championship. Martin drove extremely well to win the second heat race and finish third in the feature. The "Dentman" had another superb night finishing second in all three of his races, continuing to close up that point gap in this very close competition for the season title. Look for non-stop excitement as this championship is coming down to the wire. In the ProStock Class, Earl Wylie had another exciting night finishing fourth in his feature race after having to battle his way through traffic to advance. Excellent racing all round. Main Street Racing would like to recognize Charlie Price of PRICE PAVING in Kemptville, for his support and the best paving and PRICE available. He just did our neighbours' drive and it is beautiful; Great Job in a difficult location. Call 258-3422 for Price Paving. Charlie is a longtime race supporter as a fan, racer, owner and sponsor.
Hot summer racing, the most exciting in years, as ProTruck Drivers beat the heat and their fenders to put on a great show for fan appreciation night. Trucks were often seen racing three abreast, swapping paint for positions through all thirty laps of the feature race. Tight racing gave Ken two flat tires and substantial cosmetic body damage. Ken began the race sandwiched between Bill Code and Shaun Quinn down the back straight away. The right front tire got cut down and sliced open, by the outside truck. Off to the pits. Minutes later, with a lot of help from Carmen & Ed of Steve Yendall Racing as well as Mike Kenyon of Kenyon Racing Products, Ken was back out and ready to race again. Starting at the back, Ken charged his way back into fourth place in fewer than three laps. Another caution on the track caused a restart and they were packed up and off again. Unfortunately the second flat of the night for Ken occurred when another ProTruck came down onto his right rear tire and sheared off the valve stem. Back to the pits again, with Carmen & Ed in tow. Soon Ken was once again off and racing, moving quickly through the pack. Late in the race however, Billy Routcliffe, in ProTruck #82 rubbed Ken just as Ken was passing on the outside. In this aggressive race, the flagman thought that was one rub too many and prematurely ended the race by black flagging Ken and Chris Shipclark, as an example to everyone. The racing ended for the evening but it was a great show and the fans certainly loved it. Martin Walter was able to create an unusually large seven-point gap over fellow North Gower driver “Dentman” Dave Watchorn. Martin managed a second place finish in the heat and a win in the feature, “Dentman” Dave pulled off a win in the heat race and a shocking fourth place finish in the Dave & Martin Show. In the ProStock Class, Earl Wylie finally saw some good luck come his way, finishing fourth in his heat race and improving to third in his feature race. This marks the first night in quite some time that mechanical failure hasn’t forced Earl into early retirement. July 3rd also marked the first CASCAR race sanctioned under the new ownership at Ottodrome. Despite a turnout of only four local cars, the race was still an excellent display of great driving. It was very exciting to see North Gower driver, Lyle Perkins, of Perkins/Harrison’s Racing an his crew return to the local track and come away with a well earned victory. Going back to Black Flags, it was a real eye opener to see how the flagging and racing was done at the CASCAR Canada Day Shootout at Cayuga 2000 Speedway. On Saturday Night NASCAR Driver Tony Stewart blatantly spun out the ISMA Car, that had been blocking him for several laps, right on the front straight at 160 MILES per hour. The next night was the CASCAR SHOOTOUT with six of the top NASCAR drivers. Matt Kenseth (the winner), Johnny Benson, Kenny Schrader, Tony Stewart, Dave Blaney, and Ted Musgrave were all competing against Canada’s CASCAR Drivers. It was some of the best racing ever seen in Canada. If there was any doubt whether or not the NASCAR drivers came to race, it was cast aside by Kenny Schrader. Seen on the popular Speedvision program, “INSIDE WINSTON CUP”, Schrader mentioned that fellow NASCAR driver, Tony Stewart, was a bit upset with him after a video replay showed an obvious rub and spin while the race was under caution. Another NASCAR driver, Matt Kenseth, made a late charge, pushing aside the second and third place drivers, and passed leader Don Thompson with only a few laps remaining. Kenseth and Thompson ran side-by-side coming through the last corner when Matt nosed him out for a hard earned win. He later thanked Don for not pushing him up through that last corner, letting him win.

Main Street Racing - Greg Williams of G.W. Roofing has his Rookie Debut for Main Street Racing and the CARQUEST #2 ProTruck
Greg Williams, Owner of G. W. Roofing, Races his First Race Ever. Wednesday was a Great Summer Day and a Great Day to Start Racing. Greg Williams got his chance, as Ken Baird, 1st in points in the ProTruck Series, let one of his main sponsors take the wheel. Greg is son of Ivor Williams, the great Ottawa racer from the days when the track was at Lansdowne Park, and you could see the resemblance as Greg kept up with the pack in both the heat and Feature races at Ottodrome Wednesday Night. Greg will race again throughout the summer taking turns with Ken Baird for the Driver's seat. Main Street Racing of North Gower congratulates Greg on a job well done. Other North Gower Drivers did well as Matt Moffitt finished in the top five and Steve Yendall had a flat, and got turned around but was able to get back out and finish the race. This changes the points around so you may want to check them out on www.ottodrome.com .Dave Watchorn and Martin Walter are ONE point apart in their points race. In the Heats, Dave got a First and a Third place and Martin got a Third and a First Place repeating last weeks Heat Race wins. In the Feature, though, Dave edged out Martin for the win with the other Mini-Stock top drivers close behind. Both North Gower drivers are being challenged by other drivers in Mini Stocks this year and this is showing up in the quality of racing and the cars themselves. In the ProStocks, Earl Wylie was having a hard luck night after an altercation with #55, but he had some good racing up till then, as he was in the lead. GoodTime Foods is doing a really fine job of providing a variety of GOOD food, fun fare and healthy fare. The food concessions are clean and the staff friendly, and tidy. First in the Feature and First in Points for Ken Baird and the CARQUEST #2 ProTruck
Ken Baird - First in the Feature, First in Points and no Flats!!! Wednesday started out rainy but by afternoon the day was warm and sunny for the races at Ottodrome International Speedway. Ken was in the first heat race starting at the very back. He drove hard and moved all the way through the pack to second position by the end on the race. This was a test for the temporary replacement transmission, the regular transmission going before the races in St Eustache. In the Feature Race of the evening, Ken started in fifth. He quickly moved up to second behind Matt Moffitt's MTM Racing's #46. These two ProTrucks moved away from the pack and lead the way for the next 12 laps when a caution was called. It wasn't past halfway so the ProTrucks doubled up to restart. Ken had the outside pole with Matt on the inside as the green flag waved and they were racing again. This time Ken got the lead and held it to the end, Matt challenging him all the way. It was great racing and great fun, and no flat tires. Three races this season had Ken in the lead until a flat sent him to the pits, so this win was especially sweet. Congratulations to Ken and the CARQUEST #2 ProTruck and Great Crew - a well earned win for Main Street Racing Team and all the sponsors and fans. One of Main Street Racing's sponsors was racing in the Hot Laps last Night - Watch for G. W. Roofing's Greg Williams in the CARQUEST ProTruck next Wednesday Night at Ottodrome. Greg drove the ProTruck on Main Street Racing's Sponsor's Day last fall and liked it so much he wanted to try his hand at Racing. So watch the progress of this New North Gower Racer as he goes racing! All the North Gower racers did well last night. Steve Yendall's ProTruck #1 was going well, just caught in a lot of traffic all evening. Dave Watchorn and Martin Walter were up to their normal tricks of entertaining the crowds while gathering up more wins. They apparently were trying to show that you can fit five cars wide around some the corners during the feature. We know they did it with three coming in for the finish line with Chris Dunham. The cheers from the stands showed the enthusiasm the Mini Stocks generate, especially with such a race to the finish. Good racing. Earl Wylie was having a hard luck night after an altercation with the wall, but he had some good racing up till then, racing in the top three in the ProStock class.Just wanted to make a quick note - GoodTime Foods is doing a really fine job of providing a variety of GOOD food, fun fare and healthy fare. The food concessions are clean and the staff friendly, and tidy. Thanks - appreciated by fans, racers, crew and officials!!! Ken Baird - From the Back of the Pack to Place in Both ProTruck Races
Wednesday races at Ottodrome were rained out and held on Thursday, June 6th. The CarQuest #2 ProTruck drew the final position in the Heat Race but within the twelve laps Ken brought the ProTruck to a second place finish. The starting position in the feature was third, but Ken quickly put his truck in first place where he was pulling away from the pack. A lap later, his right front tire went flat. He made it to the pits and was quickly on his way again. Thanks to all who helped the quick change on the tire, Carmen Griffith and Jack Bailey of Yendall's Team and Jody Rollow of the Moffitt Team as well as Leo and Chris, the Main Street Crew. Demonstrates that racing is a team sport, and everyone's on the team. After rejoining the field of ProTrucks at the back, Ken immediately started working his way to the front making it up to fifth by race finish. In the Feature he passed at least 18 trucks, some twice. Great for spectators as he first passed the lead cars to take the lead, lead for a few laps, and then the flat tire, and then working his way through the pack to place again in the Top Five.North Gower's Steve Yendall won the feature, and, as one of the most popular ProTruck Drivers, with a great looking car and enthusiastic crew, crowned off a good night of racing. There was great racing in the Mini Stocks. Dave "Dentman" Watchhorn and Martin Walter kept at their racing rivalry making MiniStocks exciting for all. - Tod Musker won the feature with Dave and Martin right behind him. Dave and Walter both placed in the heats as well, but we notice that they are getting a challenge from some of the other drivers - still tops in points but should be lots of action in Mini Stocks this season. The quality of the Mini Stocks is great, cars and drivers.Earl Wylie, our ProStock Driver, is moving up the points. He got his rear axle replaced and was out there racing hard and doing well. His is a very competitive class - lots of thrills - fun to watch for all.Cindy Kenyon is the New Track Photographer and the Photos are great - lots of pictures and something for everyone. Really nice to see - You can check out the photos and racing equipment at the Kenyon Racing Products Trailer at the track or on Precision Drive in South Gower, by Kemptville.Ken will be racing at Autodrome Montreal in St Eustache on Saturday - the Grand Prix always brings great crowds to Montreal's other Racetracks. As did Sir Jackie Stewart, 3 time Grand Prix Winner, at the Ottawa Chamber Luncheon - over 280 businesses paid $50 each to hear the Great One, otherwise called the Wee Scot, speak on the business of racing. This shows just how much support there is for Motorsports. Great to see MCO (Motorsports Club of Ottawa) there, and David Melamed and Rob Alford, who had a private talk with this true legend of Motorsports. Ken Baird had a chance to speak with him before the lunch, and, of course, they spoke about the race car garage, and what cars Sir Jackie Stewart drove now. Also last week saw Randy and Thomas Sherwood doing well at Karting at Karter's Corners - Ken had fun watching the young talent being put into action and winning. Congrats to these two young racers and all the others racing that day, with the proceeds going for Charity.Main Street Racing's Sponsors this year are Main Street Automotive and CARQUEST, Class 8 Collision, Shell Oil Thermoshell, G. First Place, a Flat Tire and a Hard Charge through the Pack makes for a Great Night of Racing at Ottodrome
: Ken Baird - Another First, and Wins Pole Position Start for the Feature
Ken Baird and the CARQUEST ProTruck #2 charged from a fifth place start to capture First in the Heat Races at Ottodrome Wednesday night. The field of ProTrucks was again split for the Heats. There are enough ProTrucks for Track Officials split them into two groups, each running in one Heat Race and then all in the Feature. Matt Moffitt and Steve Yendall, also of North Gower, were in the second heat. Matt ran away with the First while Steve finished that one Fourth after being held off by the #10 and #14 ProTrucks. The Feature Race saw Ken's #2 CarQuest ProTruck start in the pole position with Matt Moffitt' #46 on the outside pole. They raced side by side through the first laps, so that from the far side of the track you could only see one ProTruck. This continued until Ken got a flat tire on the right front. Thanks to the Moffitt Crew, Yendall's and Kenyon Racing Products for help switching the tire, again. Ken was, once again, out before the race restarted, at the back of the pack - Didn't take him long to work his way through the pack from 14th to 6th position for the finish. This was great racing as he worked his way by each competitor, one by one. Back at the front, Matt Moffitt kept up the pace racing with a foursome running two-by-two of Benoit, Yendall and Kirby to finish third, with Benoit first and North Gower's Steve Yendall second. This took skill , lap after lap; Amazing feat to watch. This was a great race for all to race and to watch. There was great racing in the Mini Stocks. Dave Watchorn (correction from the last release but Dave is Dentman Dave, not Deadman - Hey others thought so too, until they saw Dave drive - but his team is Road Kill Racing) was lucky he didn't have to many dents in his bumper as that bumper let him place one up on his favourite rival, Martin Walter. Wilson won first though in the feature but both Dave and Martin are up at the top again in points.Earl Wylie, our ProStock Driver, broke his rear axle, spectacularly, in the usual Earl Wylie fashion, and got to watch some racing instead. He is fun to watch though, so be ready next week when he will no doubt be back showing everyone how to ride the outside line. For photos of the races, Cindy Kenyon is the New Track Photographer. Check out the photos and racing equipment at the Kenyon racing Products Trailer.

Main Street Racing Team all Smiles with Another Good Night of Racing at Ottodrome International Speedway
Main Street Racing all Smiles after Hard Work Pays Off
Ken Baird and the CARQUEST ProTruck #2 Take Second and Third Place finishes on Ottodrome's second race night of the Ottawa Oval Track Season keeping way up in the Points. There were so many ProTrucks so Track Officials split them into two groups, each running in one Heat Race and then all in the Feature. Racing in the second heat race, Ken began in 5th place in reverse point order. By midway in this qualifier, Ken had made his way third place. With only a couple laps left to go, Ken secured second place while evading the spinning truck of Shawn Quinn directly in front of him. The Feature Race saw Ken start in the fourth grid position. Through the first half of the race, Ken had managed his way up to second place bearing down on first. On lap 15 Ken made his move to the lead position, getting by on turn two and along the back straight. Ken's lead was short lived however, when the right front tire when flat, and he was forced to pit. With the help of just about everyone in the immediate vicinity, a quick pit stop got Ken out without missing a lap. Chris and Leo did a GREAT Job getting the ProTruck on the track in minutes, saving Ken from missing a lap. Re-starting at the back, Ken made a hard charge through the pack to end up in third place by the 26th lap. Ken was unable to make a move on the #46 truck of Matt Moffitt in time, especially after tagging the wall lightly in Corner Four, and had to settle for a hard fought 3rd place finish. Matt Moffitt in the #46 MTM Racing Truck finished second behind the #99 Dodge of Steve Benoit. Steve Yendall, usually up there in the Top Three had major problems with the ProTruck #1's Rear end and did not get to finish this one. Another showdown between Dave Watchorn and Martin Walter had Martin Walter pinching in for first in the feature. Martin and Watchorn both had good finishes through out, but Dave (Deadman Dave) Watchorn kept his points lead - so far. Better watch these guys - good racing fun in the Four Cylinder Mini Stock. Ottodrome Season Opens With Sunshine And A Win
A 1st and 2nd Place Finish after Altercation with Tires on the Inside of Corner One
Ken Baird and the CARQUEST ProTruck #2 begin a brand new season with a 1st and 2nd place finish at Ottodrome's First Race of the Season. Starting third from the back in the opening heat race, Ken managed to make his way up into a fight for third place when he was, suddenly spun into the infield, resulting in a DNF in that heat. After furious body repair was completed, Ken made it out for the second heat. Starting from the fourth position, Ken battled for several laps and eventually took the lead, never to look back. Ken held the lead through a late caution, earning his first, and very convincing win of the 2002 season. The feature saw Ken start in the second last position with Steve Yendall behind him. The pair fought through the pack quite quickly, and were running second and third (respectively) by the midway point of the feature race. Ken held off Steve Yendall for the last 15 laps but was unable to pass the leader, resulting in solid second place finish.Dave Watchorn and Martin Walter had there usual Wednesday night battle with Dave finishing 1st, 2nd and 1st in the feature, Martin Walter got a first but spun in the feature. Earl Wylie had a strong showing but was forced to withdraw early from the feature with car troubles.A strong showing, wonderful weather and lots of fun by all are surely indications of another great season in the #2 CARQUEST/MAIN STREET RACING Pro TruckVisit www.mainstreetottawa.com\status.html for news and past years notes on Ken Baird and Main Street Racing. Ken Baird and the CARQUEST ProTruck #2 begin a brand new season. The first race of the season at St. Eustache launches this year’s racing season into action. St. Eustache hosted the 100 lap CASCAR CarQuest sportsman series race along with a 30 lap Pro Truck feature. The Old Milwaukee ProTruck 100 Lap race was ‘snowed’ out the weekend before and will be re-scheduled. Main Street Racing and Ken Baird started the season May 5th in the #2 Pro Truck with help from veteran Race Car Parts Professional Leo Constantinou of CarQuest Nepean.

The first race of the year proved to be an important testing ground for all competitors as they tried to get the trucks set up for the new season. Ken Baird, with a brand new, untested ProTruck, moved from tenth place into fourth place in the first 8 laps. The sun’s heating action, already showing its effect even in the Spring, warmed the track just enough to effect handling. The ProTruck 2 got loose from overheated tires making running on the outside impossible. Ken dropped back to eleventh then up to tenth position for a respectable finish. North Gower’s Steve Yendall also attended the first race of the season and placed twelfth in the truck series. Their ProTruck looks great again this year; And their crew have the best sandwich makers and they shared the wealth – thanks. Kenyon Racing Products were there as well with a variety of racing supplies and equipment.
The next race scheduled for Main Street Racing is May 15th at the New OTTODROME, just west of the Corel Centre in Ottawa. This was the old Capital City Speedway site. The facility has seen a lot of work in the last few weeks, courtesy of a new owner and a new attitude towards Motorsports. David Melamed attended the local Chamber of Commerce Speakers Night and had great news for all who attended, including the Motorsports Club of Ottawa’s President Ron Woltman and other MCO members. The potential for this track now is about to become reality and it will be great to watch the new facility unfold.
